Chef O'Connell prides himself in using the best in seasonal ingredients, which is the reason for his terrific tasting menu's.
Chef O'Connell was born in the Buffalo area, but grew up in the Southern California suburb of Glendale. At a young age Chef O'Connell was introduced to fine cuisine; at restaurant such as the famed Le Serre, Jimmy's in Beverly Hills, Mauro's, and Ma Maision. After graduation from St. Joseph Collegiate Institute, O'Connell set out to obtain all of the tools that he uses to create his unique dishes.
Chef O'Connell has worked in some of the finest eateries in Buffalo such as the Left Bank, Salvatore's Italian Garden "under the direction of Russell Salvatore. Chef O'Connell has cooked in a private residence in Philadelphia, and for a private estate in Belize. All of these experiences lead Chef O'Connell along with his family to bring "Big City" fine dining to Buffalo by opening O'Connells American Bistro. Chef O'Connell also is very involved with education, by teaching classes at local culinary schools and by lending his hand in volunteering at local soup kitchens and food pantries. Chef O'Connell also has a beautiful daughter that he hopes one day will share his passion for fine food.
